Hey there! We just got back from one of the top 10 European destinations, according to Lonely Planet. Texel, the Dutch island, is number 9 on the list. (My parents are currently camping at number 1 of the list, but I am not writing this post to complain about that fact).
We have been to Texel back in March and really loved it (you can see the relevant post here), but didn’t manage to see all the places we wanted. It turns out, even after this second visit, there is still a lot to discover. Luckily, it’s only a 2-hour bus-train-ferry ride from where we live.
This time we stayed at Den Burg, at this amazing B&B that I highly recommend. Den Burg is a lovely little city with picturesque streets, incredibly well taken-care of gardens and cute little shops. We started our days there with an amazing breakfast and it was so refreshing for me to enjoy an early morning feast, without having to move my finger (thank you Hillian!).
We spent 3 days in Texel this time and we had the chance to visit Ecomare, close to De Koog, and the surrounding dunes. We ate great food, walked in nature, saw tons of sheep, seagulls, seals and butterflies and came back really tired, but re-energized at the same time. Following are some of the pictures I took during our stay.
If you are visiting North Holland, make sure to stop by Texel and you won’t regret it! It’s an ideal family destination, as the little villages are quiet, there are plenty of car-free streets to stroll on, plenty of easy hikes for little feet and tons of animals to observe.
